Safety Devices

DeviceFunction
Chain brakeStops chain on kickback - engages manually (push forward) or automatically via inertia
Throttle lockoutPrevents accidental throttle activation
Chain catcherCatches chain if it breaks or derails
Rear hand guardProtects right hand from chain
Start/stop switchQuick engine shutoff
Anti-vibration systemReduces hand-arm vibration

Pre-Use Checks

  1. Check fuel level (correct 50:1 mix)
  2. Check bar oil level
  3. Inspect chain tension - should lift slightly off bar but still move freely
  4. Check chain sharpness
  5. Inspect bar for damage or wear
  6. Check all guards and handles are secure
  7. Test chain brake function (push forward to engage, pull back to release)
  8. Check for fuel leaks
  9. Make sure muffler is correctly attached with no damage
  10. Check spark arrestor is in place

Starting Procedure

Cold Start

  1. Place saw on flat, stable ground
  2. Engage chain brake (push front hand guard forward)
  3. Set master control lever to CHOKE position
  4. Press fuel primer bulb until fuel is visible (approx. 10 times)
  5. Hold front handle firmly, secure rear with foot through handle
  6. Pull starter rope until engine fires (typically 3-5 pulls)
  7. Move master control to HALF THROTTLE position
  8. Pull starter rope until engine starts
  9. Briefly press throttle trigger to return to idle
  10. Let warm up briefly
  11. Release chain brake only when ready to cut

Warm Start

  1. Engage chain brake
  2. Set master control to HALF THROTTLE (no choke)
  3. Press primer bulb a few times
  4. Pull starter rope until engine starts
  5. Press throttle briefly to return to idle

Starting Safety

Never start the engine indoors - exhaust fumes are dangerous. Never start without guide bar and chain fitted.

Shutdown Procedure

  1. Release throttle and let engine idle
  2. Push start/stop switch to STOP
  3. Engage chain brake
  4. Allow to cool before storage
  5. Clean saw body and bar
  6. Top up bar oil for storage

Fuelling

ItemSpecification
Fuel typeUnleaded petrol + 2-stroke oil
Mix ratio50:1 (2% oil)
Fuel tank0.55 L
Chain oilQuality bar and chain oil
Oil tank0.26 L

Chain Tension Adjustment

  1. Stop engine and allow to cool
  2. Loosen bar nuts (do not remove)
  3. Turn chain tensioner screw:
    • Clockwise = tighten chain
    • Counter-clockwise = loosen chain
  4. Correct tension: chain can be pulled away from bar by about 3mm but snaps back
  5. Tighten bar nuts while holding bar tip up
  6. Check chain moves freely by hand

Check Tension Frequently

New chains stretch quickly. Check tension after every few cuts initially.

Maintenance

After Each Use

  • Clean external parts
  • Check chain tension
  • Check chain sharpness
  • Turn guide bar (even wear)
  • Check bar groove and oil hole are clear
  • Check for fuel/oil leaks

Weekly (Regular Use)

  • Clean air filter
  • Check spark plug condition
  • Clean cooling fins
  • Check chain brake function
  • Inspect chain catcher
  • Check all screws and nuts are tight

Monthly

  • Clean fuel filter
  • Clean spark arrestor in muffler
  • Check clutch drum and sprocket
  • Sharpen or replace chain as needed
  • Remove burrs from guide bar edges
